Can a Heart be Circumcised?

The Torah uses this powerful metaphor to teach that spiritual growth begins by removing the barriers that cloud our minds and distance us from God. In Tai Chi, releasing unnecessary tension allows energy to flow more freely, strengthening our balance, connection, and purpose.

The teaching

Can a heart be circumcised? In this week's Torah portion, Moshe tells the people to "circumcise your heart."

This expression is about removing the layers of blockage that prevent us from seeing clearly, feeling deeply, and drawing closer to God through living the Torah.

Tai Chi teaches a similar lesson. Before energy can flow freely, we first release unnecessary tension — and remove the obstacles that interrupt our balance and connection.

Whether in Torah or Tai Chi, growth often comes not by adding more — but by removing what stands in the way. Learn more at TorahTaiChi.com.
