Why was Israel born without being named?

In Lech Lecha, God tells Avram to leave home and journey to a land He will show him—without revealing the destination. Torah teaches us that faith sometimes means taking the first step before we can see the entire path. Tai Chi explores that idea through centering, listening and adapting.

The teaching

Why was Israel born without being named? When God tells Avram to leave his homeland, He only tells him to go toward the land that He will show him.

His journey begins before the destination is revealed. The Torah is teaching something profound about faith. We don't need to see the entire path before taking the first step.

In Tai Chi, we find our center, and allow the next movement to emerge. We use Ting Jin to listen, and sense a partner's force, helping us stay centered and adapt to change.

Not knowing the ending doesn't mean moving blindly. It means staying oriented, so you can respond. Avram faithfully began the journey toward the land that would become Israel, before its destination was revealed.

Sometimes, a meaningful journey begins with a first step of faith, before we see the entire path. If this gave you something to think about, share it - and follow or subscribe for more Torah Tai Chi.
